[00:00:00] Allie: Welcome to Enrichment for the Real World. The podcast devoted to improving the quality of life of pets and their people through enrichment. We are your hosts, Allie Bender…
[00:00:31] Emily: and I’m Emily Strong…
[00:00:32] Allie: and we are here to challenge and expand your view of what enrichment is, what enrichment can be, and what enrichment can do for you and the animals and your lives.
Even though Emily and I are certified dog behavior consultants and the coauthors of Canine Enrichment for the Real World, and obviously we do a lot with dogs, we wanted to talk about all species in this podcast. Why is that, Emily?
[00:00:55] Emily: Well, there are a lot of great resources out there for dogs in terms of how to meet their needs and provide enrichment, but not so much for other species.
And that’s a real shame because there’s broad applicability across species in terms of figuring out something really cool that we can do to provide enrichment for one species and how it also works really well for other species. We can be better at innovating and problem solving when we know about this stuff and that can make us better caregivers and have better relationships with the animals in our care.
To that end, we are going to be interviewing guests from a variety of fields who have expertise in a wide range of topics related to enrichment. Then in the following week, we’ll discuss how to implement at least one aspect of what we discussed in that interview.
[00:01:41] Allie: Make sure to subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts, so you don’t miss an episode. This show goes on the road on March 7th in the meantime, happy training!
