Epistemology in Our Profession

One of the foci throughout the mentorship program is developing good metacognitive skills, including:

  • Epistemology – the ability to assess our knowledge and verify the validity of the information we consume
  • Identification of cognitive biases – errors in thinking as we perceive and process information
  • Identification of logical fallacies – errors in reasoning

These skills are important for behavior professionals to develop because we are inundated with a wide array of information, and we make decisions about how to practice our profession based on that information.
